About Us

Welcome to Glacier Flight Training, located in the north west corner of Montana. Glacier Flight Training is based at Glacier Park International Airport in Kalispell, Montana.

We fly to you! Train with a FAA Designated Pilot Examiner in your airplane, or our IFR Cessna 172/G with a Garmin 430 and 180 hp engine. Enjoy cross country flight training over several states and real world flying IMC (in the clouds) while obtaining your instrument pilot license. Fly through class B and C airspace with confidence while working on your private pilots license.

We offer custom flight training packages incorporating flight instruction in Montana, Washington, Idaho, Oregon and California. The North West of the United States is a spectacular place for flight training. Train and take your FAA practical exam with FAA DPE Michelle Petrina.

We specialize in advanced flight training with an emphasis on glass cockpit technology. The SR22 Cirrus is our specialty!

Instrument flight training is made easy! You will master programming and setting up your equipment for Wass approaches as well as auto pilot coupled approaches.

Meet Our Staff


Michelle Petrina Flight Instructor – Owner

Michelle graduated California State University, Chico with a bachelors of science. She has been flight instructing in the Rocky Mountains of Montana for the past 11 years. Michelle is a Designated Pilot Examiner, ATP, MEII, CFII, CFI, tail wheel, Beech Jet 400A, factory certified with Cirrus & Columbia (Cessna Corvallis) aircraft. She has been a licensed pilot for 20+ years. She specialized in Muli Engine and advanced avionics flight training in the San Francisco Bay Area.


Phil Hanson Flight Instructor – CFII

Phil Hanson is a native Montanan, born and raised on a ranch in Northwest Montana. Growing up next to an airport and with family members in the industry, he’s had a passion and fascination with Aviation since he was a child.

After high school Phil attended UND’s (University of North Dakota) aeronautics program and earned a BBA in Aviation Management. During his training at UND he completed his Commercial and Flight Instructor Certificates as well as his Instrument and Multi-Engine Ratings in fixed wing aircraft.

After graduating he returned to Montana and added on his Instrument Flight Instructor Certificate. He has over 300hrs of logged time instructing in the Mountains of the Northwest. When Phil’s not out enjoying the Beauty of Montana from the Air You might run into him mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, on the lake wakeboarding, fishing a stream or enjoying another of the many outdoor activities Montana has to offer.
